For my final project, I decided to create a visual journal. Since I am a huge Panic! At The Disco fan, I chose to make their songs the theme for the whole thing. While I planned for how I was going to execute this piece of art, I used several planning activities. The first was to brainstorm which songs I wanted to include. I did this by creating a list of my favorite songs and picking from those songs. The second thing I did was to create color pallets for each album. The last thing I did was to use pictures of the album art to inspire the details and colors of the designs of the pages.
As I said before, Panic! At The Disco was the inspiration for my work. I have been listening to them a lot lately, with and without my friends. I deeply enjoy singing their songs and getting to know the members, and they are my role models. I thought a visual journal was most appropriate because I couldn't possibly pick just one song to base my art around because I love all of them too much. This allowed me to hit several of the best songs without dedicating too much time to any one of the them. Overal, I like my artwork. I wish that my painting skills were better so I could create more detailed pages, but overall I think the themes were represented and the pages flow together nicely.
I think giving us the opportunity to pick what we work on is great. This means that people have to search within themselves to find the theme of their work, which ultimately can help them learn more about themselves and other people. It's also more of a challenge creatively to have to produce your own prompt and execute work that you feel accurately represents that prompt. I absolutely loved having as much choice as we did because it meant that I could form my theme around what I wanted to create, as opposed to having to alter my vision to fit the prompt.
Hope you've enjoyed my art!
